For some time I’d dreamt of opening a guest house for people like myself who want to stay abroad in a place which is someone’s home. A place where my own love of furnishing and design could help create a feeling of well-being. My search for the right house went on for several months and as I was beginning to lose heart—but then I came across this charming place. As I walked in, I felt a sense of peace and serenity. The rooms were already decorated in excellent taste, but, yes, there was also scope for my own personal touch. I felt at home.

And now, after much hard work, it really is my home, an oasis of peace and relaxation where Italian design and local traditions have been successfully combined with unexpected results. An additional pleasure is to be able to welcome my guests, leaving them as completely independent as they wish, with the house staff always ready to make them feel like pampered Sultans, here in Dar al Sultan, ‘The house of the Sultan’.

For me, it is a source of pleasure to see that service is always impeccable and the rooms are ‘clean as a flower’.
My Riad is a special place and many top furnishing magazines have published lavishly-illustrated articles on it (Vogue, Sunday Times, Côte Sud, Marie Claire, Brigitte, Maison du Maroc, and many others); in late 2007 we’ll be in the splendid volume “Taste Marocco”, and in early 2008 in “Luxury Holiday Escapes”, both published by teNeus in French, English and German.

In short, Dar al Sultan has become one of the coolest guest houses in Marakech!! I almost forgot—you can also eat at the Riad: another thing that makes us special: meals to remember.

Riad has five beautiful bedrooms , all on the first floor and all with air-conditioning (hot and cold), all supplied with fine bed-linen and soft towels:

The bedrooms are all furnished quite differently one from the other, but each in impeccable good taste in a perfect mix of Arabic tradition and Italian design.

The public spaces are: A patio with swimming pool and open-air living-room, a place where it’s a real pleasure to relax and converse. A living-room with fireplace, dining area and conversation area. A superb functional kitchen where your breakfasts and (on request) dinners are prepared every day.

A small boutique with local gift items (such as perfumed candles, original teapots, trays, etc.)—just the thing for last-minute souvenirs. A second patio with wall-fountain and a second open-air living-room. Drawing-room with plasma TV and surround sound.

A furnished terrace for peaceful relaxation while enjoying the abundant breakfast or a candlelit supper—or just for collapsing on the shaded day-bed for a nap or to read the latest book. A short five minute walk takes you to the famous central square, Jemaa El Fna.

Lunchs and dinners on request Massage, yoga lessons and courses of local cuisine on request. Internet and wi-fi at your disposal, of course, for those brief moments when you surface from your life of ease to make quick contact with reality before contently returning to our world of perfect harmony

Tourism taxes (generally not included in the room rate).
Moroccan riads ‘guesthouses’ have to collect 2 taxes upon their guests:
- Tourism Promotion Tax (TPT): the amount of the tax depends on the property category, 8 or 11 dirhams per people per night. That tax is collected by the properties and integrally put back into Morocco National Tourist Office.
- City Tax (from January 2008): like the hotels and restaurants, ‘guesthouses’ must now collect the City tax. The amount of the City tax is 15 dirhams per people (older than 12 y-o) and per night.

RESERVATION AND CANCELLATION POLICY

In the event of a reservation cancellation, the Dar Al Sultan will apply the following cancellation policy and will charge any applicable fees to the client credit card used during the reservation process :
-Cancellations received more than 21 days before the confirmed arrival date are subject to a cancellation fee of 30 €uros.
-Cancellations received 0-21 days before the confirmed arrival date are subject to a cancellation fee of 100 % of total projected room costs.

Cancellation fees will be charged to the credit card supplied during the reservation process.
